Monkeypox Mini-Module
Learn basic information about the transmission, prevention and symptoms of Monkeypox in this mini-module.
I designed this mini-module concept project to provide basic information to the general public on the transmission, prevention, and symptoms of Monkeypox.
Audience: People in the general public that want information on the transmission, prevention, and symptoms of Monkeypox.
Responsibilities: eLearning development, graphic design, mockups, audio narration, closed caption transcription
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Audacity
My Process
I drew on the SAM framework to design and develop this mini-module. I developed this experience to inform the general public on the transmission, prevention, and symptoms of Monkeypox. I used Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, Audacity, and Articulate Storyline 360 to develop this experience.
Text-Based Storyboard
I created a text-based storyboard to chart the learner journey, plan content delivery and plan the design and feel of this mini module.
Visual Mockups
I designed visual mockups in Adobe XD prior to programming it in Articulate Storyline 360. Initially, I did not include a doctor character in my first design iteration. I shifted the design direction in my second design iteration and incorporated a doctor character to craft a more engaging user experience.
Audio Narration
I used Audacity to record audio narration. I recorded audio for each informational slide and added the mp3 files to the corresponding slides in Articulate Storyline 360.
Closed Captioning
I used Articulate Storyline 360 tools to transcribe the audio to create closed captions to make the audio accessible.
Development
After going through three iterative design cycles, I developed the entire mini-module in Articulate Storyline 360.
One development that I’m particularly proud of is the audio element. Due to the nature of this mini-module, I wanted the content to be approachable and engaging to the user to make the learning experience sticky. The audio element paired with the interactivity and the click and drag knowledge check gives learners variety and creates an engaging learning experience around a serious topic.
Key Takeaways
Overall, I enjoyed creating this project. I was able to explore and include new elements in this Articulate Storyline 360 project. Additionally, this project pushed me to explore creative ways to present serious content in an engaging and interactive manner.
